Nizuc Resort & Spa Cancun, Mexico - Luxury Honeymoon Hotel
NIZUC RESORT & SPA CANCUN, MEXICO*
NIZUC Resort & Spa which is located in Punta Nizuc, Cancun was our last stop in our Yucatan vacation in February 2017. I was really eager to see that amazing-looking luxury resort as I’m always looking for perfect honeymoon spots, resorts, and hotels that I can recommend to.
NIZUC Resort & Spa really exceeded my expectations.
What to expect when you enter a 5-star luxury resort?
To be honest I was a bit nervous when we entered the resort as we came with our “not-so-nice-not-so-clean” rented car that we have used almost 2 weeks when driving around the Yucatan peninsula.
I always get a bit nervous to enter a luxury hotel with a kid. I don’t know why I feel that way because our daughter can really behave and she has never caused any problems…but still. It feels like when you travel with a kid, you’re treated a bit differently in many places. However, that definitely was not the case in NIZUC Resort & Spa. I’m actually really astonished how their staff treated us from the start on.
We were greeted with the kindest people and welcomed to the resort. I have never been in a hotel or resort with such a swift check-in. That was so easy and quick that we barely had time to admire the beauty of the spacious lobby when the staff was already showing us the way to golf carts.
As the resort is pretty huge (29 acres), they drive you to your room or around the resort with golf carts. Those golf carts are everywhere, and you basically don’t have to wait a long (or not at all) to hop into one. We also walked two times from our Residence (which was the closest one to the lobby) to the beach area and back. That was not a long walk at all, and we enjoyed walking through the luscious garden area where all private villas are located.
I think NIZUC Resort & Spa’s best asset is its staff. Even though their rooms and the whole resort area are really, really beautiful. The real luxury feel always comes with the courtesy of staff who are kind and know how to serve the guests. They greet you with warm and genuine smiles and even remember your name (that is one unbelievable thing as the resort is so huge). The only thing which was a bit strange to us was that all the staff greeted everyone with their hand to the heart. That is a lovely gesture but we were not used to that kind of greeting and were unsure if we should greet them in a similar way or not.
Our luxurious Ocean View Junior Suite
We were staying just one night as our flight was leaving from the Cancun airport the next day. I would definitely want to stay longer next time! We got one of their exquisite Ocean View Junior Suite at the Residences. The view to the Caribbean Sea, not bad at all is an understatement. For curiosity, 80 % of the hotel rooms face the Caribbean Sea.
The room was really huge (around 121 m2, 1300 sq ft) with a plunge pool on the terrace. The interior was so beautiful and tranquil. And guess what was the best part of our daughter? Of course the pool on the terrace!
The room has floor-to-ceiling windows opening onto the terrace. I loved their big king bed and especially luxury Egyptian cotton linens. The room is perfect for families.
I think I have only once before stayed in a hotel with that large bathroom and toilet area. The bathroom features a freestanding deep soaking tub, a separate toilet, and a separate rainfall shower. The bathroom is full of luxurious amenities – big bathrobes, slippers, L’Occitane products, and a flat panel tv.
In addition to the plunge pool on the terrace, our daughter loved the huge flat-screen television and kids’ movies. The room has also a radio with an iPod dock but we didn’t use it during our stay, and of course a minibar. A special mention to a Nespresso coffee maker which is a nice touch in the room (for all coffee lovers!).
One thing which is hugely important to me is working wifi in the hotel room. The wifi was pretty good in our room but there were some short periods that it didn’t work properly. That didn’t really matter as most of the time it worked really well and quickly.
We didn’t test the on-site restaurants but instead ordered room service. The room service was pretty quick and the service itself was smooth and unobtrusive. The butler came to our room and brought a whole table with him! What a service!
The resort has also private villas which must be amazing with their private pools and outdoor spaces. If you want more privacy I recommend reserving one of those. They don’t have a sea view but lots of space and privacy.
There were lots of little details that made our stay memorable, like the chocolate box that was brought to our suite or macarons that we received upon check-out. Nice little touches that make you feel special.
The beach area of NIZUC Resort & Spa
The beach area of NIZUC Resort & Spa is really beautiful with turquoise waters and white soft sand. There are lots of outdoor beds and lounge chairs where guests can enjoy the tranquility of the beach. Due to our short stay, we couldn’t use the beds or chairs but we walked around the beach area and enjoyed the view and calmness.
There’s also a gorgeous sunken pool lounge area that I would have loved to test but – until next time!
The beach area is protected so you won’t see or hear jet skis or any motored water sports (which I LOVE!). The hotel offers paddleboards and kayaks for those who want to experiment with the waters.
What makes this luxury resort exceptional is that it has combined a beautiful beach area together with a lush jungle vibe. The resort is also the only place in Cancun to have two private beaches. That is a huge thing if you want to be pretty isolated and just relax. You don’t even see Cancun’s hotel stroll from the resort – just the beautiful ocean.
I recommend that you go to the beach just before the sunset as it is B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L! The hues of different pinks and purples are amazing. I have not seen that kind of sky anywhere else than in Mexico.
I’ve heard that it’s also possible to have a romantic dinner at the end of their private pier. That must be a special way to end a day. Especially, if you are on your honeymoon I would recommend you to try it!
Luxury hotel interiors
I’m always interested in hotel interiors. They tell you a lot about the vibe of a place and how welcoming (or not) it will be.
I think one of the things that I liked the most in NIZUC Resort & Spa was their sophisticated interior decor and details. The materials and neutral colors that they have used were really high quality and calming – almost minimalistic with a Mayan vibe. Most of the materials used in the resort are locally sourced which is a huge plus.
I really loved how they have incorporated earthy elements (like an earthy tone color palette), lots of wood, and luxury textiles. The lobby area has interesting art pieces, too.
The Mayan culture was present in a sophisticated way and their logo (NIZUC meaning “nose of the dog” in Mayan) was displayed in many places but you barely noticed that it is “a logo of the hotel”. It blended in so well.
I loved their open spaces, lush greenery, and all organic elements around the lobby and the main building.
Getting married in the luxury resort NIZUC Resort & Spa
NIZUC Resort & Spa is a perfect place for newlyweds but when I walked around the resort I was thinking that it would be a perfect spot also to get married. Actually, there was a wedding at the time we entered the resort!
I could imagine that it’s pretty easy to get married in a beautiful and secluded spot in the resort as there are so many gorgeous places around. The resort has an exclusive feel and I’m sure the staff will do everything that your ceremony and reception would be perfect.
