Wonderful old house in Turku - is it the best airbnb experience?
CHARMING OLD SCHOOL AS THE BEST AIRBNB EXPERIENCE – TURKU, FINLAND
What is your best Airbnb experience? Mine happened just a while ago in Turku, Finland. (Please note that this story has been written by me in 2017.)
The struggle is real when you are traveling to Turku and would want to find a unique and/or personal and authentic place to stay. The truth is that there are not so many great hotels that have a personality in Turku, Finland.
Thanks to Airbnb I found a gem!
I was holding a flower & photography workshop together with my friend Erika from Helmivillakko in Brinkhall’s manor. I needed a place to stay for one night and I was not so happy to go to any hotel chains this time.

I’ve been browsing the Airbnb website a lot but always ended up staying in a hotel when traveling abroad. This time it was an easy choice to make when I saw Saana & Olli’s house; photos of the old schoolhouse were intriguing.
Btw, this was my first Airbnb experience! And it was perfect!
Saana & Olli – the owners and designers
The owners of that charming old house by the river are designers Saana and Olli so you can expect a great taste in everything!
When you look at the photos from the house, you had to love their modern white bathroom. And I had to test their bathtub as I think it is so cool! Actually, I think the whole bathroom might be my favorite room in the whole house. I loved that modern look with lots of green plants.
Cold weather outside – it’s autumn in Finland
When I was staying it was a bit cold outside so if you’re not so used to old houses I recommend that you’ll take some warm clothes with you. I’m really used to old houses and the fact that they are almost always a bit chilly. For me, the temperature inside was really ok but I know that someone might think that it’s a bit cold.
I think the only negative thing about my stay was that I had to leave after one night and that my stay was so short. I basically just slept there, went to a bathtub, and drank some tea (and took some photos in a dark Finnish evening!).
Interesting details
The renovated house is full of interesting details and I would have loved to photograph them all…hah hah.
I bet the place is really beautiful in the summertime as the house was surrounded by a lovely looking garden. And then there’s the river, too!
The house is not in the city center but I found the location to be just perfect if you’re coming with your own/rented car. There’s a free parking space available which was really convenient.
This beautiful home is currently taking part in a tv show called Suomen Kaunein Koti.
